IF I WERE A SHEPHERDESS

£0.00

Oil on Linen

During an amazing holiday to the Outer Hebrides, most of the time it was just me and the sheep, with a few owls and Golden Eagles as well!

It was June, but I saw how rugged the landscape was and couldn’t believe how they could survive the harshness of winter.

The sheep made me laugh, even seeing some in a bus shelter waiting on the bus that comes twice a month. Also, one at a crossroads reading the signposts.

I was painting in the beautiful Oxford Island at Christmas, and sheep were in the paddock. I stopped every morning to study them, and as the piece developed, so did my friendship with the sheep. Then one day, brown ones came to say ‘hello,’ and then, of course, they appeared in the painting.

People thought I was painting myself as the shepherdess, but she was way too young! My palette danced with colour, and my painting developed texture and depth. I thought I had finished until there was a weather warning for a blizzard, and the blizzard, with great fun, appeared.

Yep, if I were a shepherdess, I would love that job as well!
