Oil on unbleached linen
This is my favourite place on earth.
One of my earliest childhood memories is playing ‘Pooh Sticks’ over the Ivy Bridge. My own children are all grown up and we still play Pooh Sticks, passing quirky traditions down through the generations makes families unique. We start our walk on the hunt for our stick, however from the tiniest twig to the biggest branch, the smallest twig always wins.
The Ivy Bridge in Tollymore Forest Park was built in 1780. It is one of the park’s many bridges crossing the Shimna River but by far my favourite in any season. The colours in Autumn made my pallet dance, only Indian Yellow wasn’t used (if you’ve ever had a sick dog you know this colour). The scarlet red to permanent mauve in the water, the emerald green to the magenta in the river banks, the violet grey in the stone of the bridge, and the cadmium yellow to Indian red in the trees.
I’ve spent many an hour sitting on the banks however in this case my husband was holding my shoes while I was knee deep in the middle of the freezing river and the rocks were so slimy and slippery I thought I would never make it out dry! But the sketches achieved were worth it.
This is painted on a heavy grade, unbleached linen which I left exposed because of its natural properties which just marry beautifully with this idyllic scene.

I’ve always been fascinated by pebbles, even my dog is called Pebble. When visiting the shore I always say she is the prettiest pebble on the beach.
Family and friends understand this fascination as the pebbles I collect hold the memories of the places that I visit.
In the painting, the pebbles glisten like precious stones as water meanders around them. Each is unique in colour, shape, size, and texture, formed from the beginning of time and polished by the ceaseless flow.
Too often overlooked, their beauty reveals itself only when we pause to truly observe the natural world. The ebb and flow casts the pebbles like dice scattering the colour in random perfection.
I love to see how the smallest details and the seemingly insignificant become spectacular when given attention. The play of light on the pebbles and the movement of colour on the water transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.

The disbelief from others to seeing my pain on canvas.
I intently studied the reactions of people who viewed Nemesis, “The Face of My Pain”.
Their facial expressions fascinated me, their lack of words as they stared in disbelief with coldness and sadness. I watched and took everything in to see if they could possibly understand what I suffer on a day-to-day basis. I absorbed these emotions and needed to paint them… the intake of breath that didn't expel, the intense focus…..not wanting to turn away yet unable to approach and “The Reaction” appeared.
